Major League Baseball ratifies new posting agreement; Shohei Ohtani posted effective today

Shohei Ohtani has reportedly eliminated the team with the second-most money, and widely thought to be a favorite, to sign him.

Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan reports both clubs are finalists for the two-way Japanese superstar.

The tweet says Yankees general manager Brian Cashman called the news was "disappointing".

The Los Angeles Dodgers, Seattle Mariners, and Texas Rangers could be possibilities for Ohtani. The Minnesota Twins have also dropped out, according to Jon Heyman of Fan Rag Sports.

Ohtani was posted by the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters of the Nippon Professional Baseball League on Friday.

Ohtani, of course, will be limited to how much he can be paid because he is a foreign free agent under the age of 25 and is thus subject to the global pool caps provided for under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The Yankees appeared to be fairly optimistic about signing Ohtani and were pooling together as much global bonus money as possible. According to a tweet from Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, Cashman told reporters if he was a West Coast team in a smaller market that he would be excited right now. In 65 games at the plate, he hit.332/.403/.540 with eight home runs, 31 RBI and 16 doubles.
