Giants' Geno Smith rips Rex Ryan, calls him a 'coward'

New York Giants quarterback Geno Smith is reeling after losing his first start as a member of the team on Sunday to the Oakand Raiders.

"I did see one of my ex-coaches say he didn't want me to be his quarterback", Smith said.

"That really upset me", Smith said according to Bob Glauber of New York's Newsday. "I just wouldn't want him playing quarterback for me".

Following their loss on Sunday to Oakland with Smith at the helm, the team fell to 2-10 on the year, with no starter having been announced for next Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys. I saved his job in 2013. He said, "good for Geno, but I don't understand it", then went on to call it "bizarre" and "a slap in the face to a great veteran player". We fought our a** for him both years.

Ryan coached Smith with the New York Jets but is now an ESPN analyst. He's one of the most durable guys in the history of the sport and started a million games in a row. "And for him to come out and say that shows you how much of a coward he is". For him to go out like this is odd.

After the Giants' loss to the Raiders on Sunday, Smith fired back at his former head coach.

Smith's first start as a Giant went about as expected - 21-of-34 for 212 yards, a touchdown and two fumbles. The Giants offense still squandered several good chances to steal the game against Oakland, but Smith - like Manning - was under constant pressure. He started and finished a game for the first time since December 28, 2014, when he threw for 358 yards, 3 TDs and one fumble in a Jets win in Miami coached by Ryan.

The 2013 season Smith is talking about saw him finish with an 8-8 record as a rookie starting quarterback for the Jets.
