CCPA met in the Parliament and finalised the schedule and agenda of the winter session.

"The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA) has recommended holding the session from December 15 to January 5, 2018", a CCPA official said.

"We are going to ensure that a regular Winter Session is held but we will make sure that the Parliament session and (Assembly) election dates don't overlap", Jaitley said while addressing media on the cabinet decisions.

This will be a 14-day session, 25th and 26th December will be Christmas holidays.

Yechury accused the government of "playing with parliamentary democracy for the sake of victory in a state assembly election".

'We urge upon you to direct the government to summon the Parliament at the earliest as the power of summoning the and proroguing the houses of Parliament are constitutionally vested in the President, ' the Congress said in its letter.

The Opposition, especially the Congress has been attacking the government for delaying the Winter Session.

Rejecting opposition criticism that the government wants to avoid parliament before the elections, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said the session will be held and it will be a regular session, not overlapping with the Gujarat Assembly election dates.

Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Tuesday hit back at Congress for the accusation and said he was shocked to see Congress' growing affection towards dignity of the Parliament, while taking a jibe at party vice-president Rahul Gandhi's attendance in the Lok Sabha.
