A NY woman was accused Monday of intentionally drowning her infant son in a bathtub in her Rochester apartment.

A young mother in Rochester, New York, has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly drowning her 10-day-old baby in a bathtub.

The baby was taken to Rochester General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Upon arriving, police found 10-day-old Jeremiah Mitchell, according to a court document.

WHEC reported that another adult inside the home found the baby unresponsive in the bathtub and called 911.

"The defendant by these actions intentionally caused the death of her infant son", the complaint read.

Mitchell was taken from the scene to the Public Safety Building.

Police say the boy's mother, 25-year-old Markiya Mitchell, admitted to intentionally drowning her infant.

Mitchell was scheduled to be arraigned on a second-degree murder charge in Rochester City Court Tuesday morning, where the grand jury may have considered additional charges.

The 25-year-old woman also has a seven-year-old who is in the care of a relative, police said.

Markiya Mitchell, 25, was put into custody for alleged intentions to harm infant son.
