The 49ers entered the game short-handed at the receiver position. Due to complications, his wife Morgan had to deliver the baby prematurely. And Goodwin chose to share what he was going through so no questions surfaced about what was wrong.

On Tuesday, Goodwin spoke to local reporters about why he chose to play so soon after his son's death, and said his wife encouraged him to. "I'm just grateful that I was able to play in the game and get a touchdown". "Coming in the game, I wasn't really in it, because I had just lost my baby". Beathard learned about the tragedy after the game - a game in which Goodwin caught an 83-yard touchdown pass.

"Our prayers have been with him and his family". "It wasn't something that was planned or anything".

Morgan told People that she endured a miscarriage in 2013 and the couple has been trying fertility treatments for some time.

"[Morgan] encouraged me, raised my spirits, helped me get ready". "So we can maybe help people who've dealt with similar things that we have gone through or learn things from people who've been through our situation". "I think he helped out every side and was pretty impressive".

A third-round draft pick taken 78th overall by the Bills out of Texas in 2013, he's in his first season with the 49ers following four years in Buffalo after signing a two-year contract in March. "I was looking forward to having someone to call our own - our own creation", she said.

Goodwin added he and his wife have been touched by the outpouring of support ever since he made the news public in an Instagram post on Sunday. As he entered the end zone, Goodwin dropped to his knees and looked up to the sky, and dropped his head again.

Later that night, he announced the loss of his baby.

In the wake of their newborn son's death, Marquise and Morgan Goodwin are leaning on each other. "I felt joy in holding my baby even though it was a sad moment", Morgan said.

"We do have a lot of people that are following us through our journey", Goodwin said via Maiocco.

NOTES: San Francisco signed OL Cameron Hunt to the practice squad.
