The EC said the word "Pappu", used mainly by BJP supporters to ridicule Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, was derogatory.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today dubbed Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi a "failed player in politics" and exuded confidence that the BJP will win the upcoming Assembly elections in Gujarat.

The Election Commission (EC) has put restrictions on the use of the term "Pappu" by BJP's electronic advertisement cell in Gujarat.

However, the use or word was banned by election commission because indirectly it targets the Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi.

During the course of the interview, Rupani also discussed issues like employment figures in Gujarat, the BJP's election strategies, and the UPA's campaign in the poll-bound state. One of the characters in the ad goes by the name of "Pappu", and when he visits the grocery store, a staff comments: "Sir pappu bhai aaye lagte hain (seems Pappu has come)".

"Before making any election-related advertisement, we have to submit a script to the committee to get a certificate". It asked the party to remove or replace the word. However, they raised an objection to the word "Pappu", saying it is derogatory. The script was submitted to the media committee for approval.

A BJP leader said that they asked the Election Commission to reconsider their decision as there was no direct reference to any person with the term.

Elections in Gujarat will take place in two phases, on December 9 and December 14.
