Santa will light the Christmas tree, kicking off the holiday season. There's nothing like a good old-fashioned tree lighting ceremony and copious amounts of marshmallow-topped liquid chocolate to warm the cold hearts of even the sourest Scrooges.

When: Nov. 25, 5 p.m.

The Santa Parade begins at 10 a.m. Saturday on Main Street, with the Holiday Bazaar continuing all day.

What: Garden Spot Village's annual holiday train open house features both an O-gauge and HO gauge layout with more than 600 feet of track, a talking Thomas the Tank Engine and much more.

You can also visit one of these Christmas tree displays in Utah County that have already celebrated a lighting ceremony.

November 30 A children's candlelight parade will kick off the 36th annual downtown Davis holiday celebration where guests can meet Santa and Mrs. Claus. Starting at 4 p.m. the parade starts on Depot Road and heads to Schouler Park for the tree lighting at Schouler Park. 542-7408. Historic District: 6-9 p.m. 200 Wool St. Folsom.

When: Nov. 27, 6:30-8 p.m. The event will include a short Christmas program, followed by the lighting of the tree. Continues Dec. 2, 9, 16, 23, 27 and 30 from 1:30-4 p.m.

Some growers fear they might run out of trees in the next few weeks, and some observers say the same seasonal shortage could last into the 2020s. You can see the tree outside the Grand Lobby.

December 2 El Dorado Hills Town Center will teem with activities and the sounds of carolers during the city's 11th annual Christmas tree lighting.
