Reacting to the recent event of the resignation of Robert Mugabe, 93 who has ruled Zimbabwe since 1980, he told Joy News TV's AM SHOW Wednesday that Mr. Mugabe had exhausted his graces with the Zimbabweans as well as the two power blocs.

On Tuesday, Jacob Mudenda, speaker of Zimbabwe's parliament, read out Mugabe's letter announcing his immediate resignation as a president.

May added: "As Zimbabwe's oldest friend we will do all we can to support this, working with our worldwide and regional partners to help the country achieve the brighter future it so deserves".

Cars began honking horns and people cheered in the streets of Harare as the news spread.

Afolabi said that whatever good achievements recorder by Mugabe over the years could no longer be celebrated because of his sit-tight attitude to governance.

Emmerson Mnangagwa, who was recently fired as Mr Mugabe's vice-president, is now expected to take over as the country's leader within 48 hours.

The resignation brought to an end Mugabe's 37-year grip on power and was received by wild celebrations by Zimbabweans.

"Working with our South African friends, with everybody in the region, that is what we are going to be encouraging, that is the choice we are going to encourage the Zimbabweans to make".

Britain wants Zimbabwe to re-join the worldwide community following the resignation of Robert Mugabe, Prime Minister Theresa May said on Wednesday.

He said Cde Mugabe left an indelible mark on the African continent by honouring the people's wishes calling him to step down.
