Flydubai showcases first Boeing 737 Max 8

Dubai-based airline flydubai said on Wednesday that it had ordered 175 Boeing 737 Max jets, as well as purchasing options for 50 more of the aircraft.

The deal, announced at the Dubai air show, is valued at $27 billion at list prices.

Signed at the 2017 Dubai Airshow in flydubai's hometown, the agreement includes a commitment for 175 MAX airplanes, and purchase rights for 50 additional MAXs.

With today's announcement, this will bring the total number of aircraft the airline has on order to 320.

"Our customers rely on fuel-efficiency, reliability and low operating costs to be successful and the 737 MAX aircraft will meet the needs of our customers, and support Alafco's future growth", said Adel Albanwan, deputy chief executive of the leasing company.

The announcement, made at the Dubai Air Show, came just hours after rival Airbus said it had secured the biggest-ever order in its history to supply 430 medium-haul A320s to USA investment firm Indigo Partners at a catalogue price of $49.5 billion (42 billion euros). "Understanding the demand for travel across our network, our innovative approach to our cabin design and developing a product unique to our market has allowed us to exceed our passengers' expectations in their flying experience".

"We are extremely honoured that FlyDubai has selected to be an all-Boeing operator for many years to come".

"We have had success with the 737 family in the past and are confident the 737 MAX will continue to help grow our business". Boeing boasts more than 4,000 for the various models of the 737 MAX. All variants of the jet are powered by the CFM International Leap-1B engine.
