USA ambassador Nikki Haley and Israeli envoy Danny Danon both targeted Iran during the meeting, with Haley accusing Iran of "aggressive, destabilizing and unlawful behavior" and urging the Security Council to adopt the Trump administration's comprehensive approach to the country instead of looking exclusively at its compliance with the nuclear deal.

"So, the key to getting India on the Security Council would have to be not to touch the veto", Haley said at an event organised on the US Capitol by US India Friendship Council.

"For 38 years, Iran has threatened and continues to threaten the world".

Haley went on to point to a list of the highlights of Iran's violations, including its support of Houthi rebels in Yemen and Hezbollah in Lebanon, as well as the Assad regime in Syria. "Iran must be judged in totality of its aggressive, destabilizing and unlawful behavior. To do otherwise would be foolish". She said that none of the five members-Russia, China, the United Kingdom, the USA and France- would ever want to give up their veto power. It would require support from Russian Federation, which like Hezbollah is supporting Syrian President Bashar Assad and has good relations with Iran.

Britain said it was ready to address concerns about Iran's ballistic missile program and regional activities, but warned against scrapping the nuclear deal altogether.

"We also look to Iran to engage in constructive dialogue to stop destabilizing actions and work toward negotiated solutions", he said.

Israel's Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon used his speech to warn against Iran's influence in the region and said that "Iran seeks to destroy Israel by any means necessary". The statement, made by the Donald Trump administration's ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, came even as she asserted that the USA was is open to Security Council reforms. Iran has complained that the U.S.is not meeting its part of the agreement.

Turning to Iran, Nebenzia warned that "attempts to dismantle the architecture of the agreement on the Iranian nuclear program will lead to a negative reaction in the Middle East and beyond".

Nebenzia said that threats in the Middle East "should not obscure the priority for us to resolve the Palestinian issue because it is fundamental if we want to normalize the situation in the region long-term". "That's because almost every threat to peace and security in the Middle East is connected to Iran's outlaw behavior".

Yesterday, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that Tehran would keep the 2015 deal as long as other signatories respected it, but would "shred" the deal if Washington pulls out. "It's clear where we stand", Skoog said, according to reports.

He argued that "no country had done more than Iran" in the fight against the Islamic State group and slammed the U.S. administration for selling weapons to Saudi Arabia, which is waging war in Yemen.

Though Congress had to fight for the right to disapprove of the deal, the passage of the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015 allowed Congress to not only vote on the deal but to also hold public hearings and debate.

"If we had hegemonic ambitions", Khoshroo said, "the nuclear deal would never have been reached".
