It will be Andy's first time actually driving the auto, which is powered by a EJ200 jet engine, taken from a Eurofighter Typhoon.

October is the month that British Royal Air Force fighter pilot Green celebrates the twentieth anniversary of being the first and only man to ever break the sound barrier in a auto, setting the current world land-speed record at 763.035 miles per hour (1 227.98 km/h). This time the team aims to propel Green through the 1,000mph barrier in the South African desert.

The test run in Newquay will not feature these hybrid rockets (they're still being finished in Norway), but instead will be a preliminary test of the car's jet engine and its state-of-the-art computer systems.

The landmark moment in the high-profile project came 20 years after the current land speed world record was set on 15 October, 1997. To do this, the car's jet-rocket will need to produce 13 tons of thrust - four more than was needed in today's 200mph run.

The test runs took place at Newquay Airport in Cornwall, southwest England. It's hoped that the vehicle will initially break the 800mph barrier, before ultimately reaching the goal of 1000mph. The jet engine gets the auto up to around 350mph before a rocket supplied by European arms "n" rockets firm Nammo is ignited.

There is no scope to increase speeds significantly in the United Kingdom as there is no runway long enough or tyres available to withstand the loads generated by Bloodhound SSC beyond 250 miles per hour.

During the trials in Cornwall, Mr Green and his team pushed the auto up to around 200mph to check its progress.

The exact speed Bloodhound achieves at Newquay will depend on its ability to stop, says Chapman.

He is in the United Kingdom to test the Bloodhound for the first time.

The vehicle was built in Avonmouth and can travel a mile in 3.6 seconds.
